NoFAP and why you should try it

In this article, I am going to provide an overview of NoFAP based on my experience with it so far. I will be using the 5Ws approach.

What?

From Wikipedia: “NoFap is a website and community forum that serves as a support group for those who wish to give up pornography and masturbation.”

The term fap refers to male masturbation but since this is a common problem not specific to males, the NoFap community includes females, albeit fewer than males. As a concrete example, YouTuber Kasumi Kriss covers her experience with NoFAP here.

Why?

NoFap can be an approach worth trying out if you are experiencing or have experienced the following in the past after fapping:

  • brain fog and associated lack of concentration which can potentially even affect your work and personal life
  • lack of confidence and indecisiveness
  • guilt

How does NoFap help? You will see minor gains the first week of NoFap. After you try it out for ninety days, which is a popular way to do it, you will see major gains in the areas mentioned above.

How?

Multiple ways exist: join a support group on NoFap or join subreddit for NoFap for starters.

Next, pick a mode which suits you best. Here is a summary of the information from the guide on NoFap:

In my personal experience, I went with Hard mode and then switched to Lite mode. Your mileage will vary. But overall, the benefits in the Pros section are achievable with either mode. More details in the NoFap guide.

Finally, pick a duration, as a challenge. But remember that every day is day 1 because an urge can occur anytime:

Where?

NoFap is a way of life and it will be done everywhere: at home, work and every other part of your life.

When?

Right now because there is no good reason to delay:-)

Final takeways

  • Days can be tracked using a day counter on reddit, on a calendar or somewhere else.
  • But the key point is to have a plan in mind when you have urges: going for a jog when the weather is good, going to the gym when the weather is too cold or it is raining, cold showers, and remembering why you are doing this.

Gym and jogging not only divert your focus from fapping but they also put you in a environment where you are less likely to fap since fap is done in private.
